Writing From Within
This three-day experiential, hands-on writing workshop is offered in partnership with The Center for the Professional Education of Teachers (CPET) at Teachers College, Columbia University. The workshop is designed to help both you and your students craft prose with voice, authenticity and vitality. We will explore strategies for finding inspiration, locating meaningful fiction and nonfiction ideas, structuring and developing the story, and sharing work for effective input and revision.
Methods are easily and effectively transferable to the classroom, will strengthen writing skills across genres, encourage writers to go beyond constraining forms and formulas, promote community in the classroom, and draw on diverse interests, backgrounds and experiences. Come ready to write, to reflect on the process, and to gain insights and understandings for best practice application with students. Techniques, tools, experiments and lessons introduced in this workshop are valuable and engaging for educators and students at different levels and of varying abilities, because one approach to writing does not fit all.
Eighteen CTLE credits are available upon the completion of this workshop.
This workshop is designed for
• Teachers, grades 5-12
• School administrators
• ENL teachers
• High school or college counselors
• Educators in community centers, after school programs, and other out-of-school time settings
